The Brookstone Board of Trustees has named Brian Kennerly as the school's fifth Headmaster. Currently Brian is the Assistant Headmaster for External Affairs at Wesleyan School in Norcross, Georgia. Prior to his current postion he served as Wesleyan's founding high school principal for seven years. According to Zach Young, Wesleyan's Headmaster, "Brian's fingerprints are evident across the Wesleyan campus. While this development is a loss for Wesleyan, we are happy for this significant professional opportunity for Brian." In his role at Wesleyan Brian has been responsible for all publications and the website. He has had oversight of the admissions, communications, and technology departments. In addition to these responsibilities, he also teachers and coaches. This past weekend Brian's boys Cross Country Team won the State title.
In response to the Board's decision Brian commented, "Brookstone is one of the most vibrant and relational schools in Georgia that truly lives out its mission of preparing their students not only for college but for life. My time at Brookstone has allowed me the opportunity to see a school that values the lives of young people beyond the classroom walls." He went on to add, "Brookstone invests itself in the lives of its students and it is evident in every aspect of school life."
Brian holds a BS in Political Science from Vanderbilt University, a MA in Education Administration from Columbia University and his PhD in Education is in progress at Vanderbilt. Prior to working at Wesleyan, Brian was a Grade Chair and taught at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta for eight years, and he taught and was the Director of the Boys' School at The Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana.
Brian and his wife Holle have two daughters (Sara - 6 and Blare - 2). He will assume the role of Head of School in June 2010.
